Dental Bridge Work

Since spaces left from missing teeth can leave you susceptible to gum disease and tooth decay, it is usually in your best interest to fill in the space. A dental bridge procedure can also correct bite issues and improve speech problems.

While there are several types, a dental bridge is basically a false tooth that is anchored to adjacent teeth. Bridges are very natural in appearance and can be long lasting if good dental hygiene is practiced.

There are three types of dental bridge design:

  • Traditional Bonded Bridge - where a false tooth is anchored between two crowns that are mounted onto adjacent teeth (abutment).
  • Resin Bonded Bridge - usually used for front teeth; a false tooth is fused to metal bands that are bonded to abutment with resin that is hidden from view
  • Cantilever Bridge - used when there are teeth only on one side of a missing tooth; the false tooth is fused on one side

While dental bridges have been an effective treatment for missing teeth for years, dental implant surgery is becoming a more popular method of filling in a space in the gums.

An implant is often preferable to traditional bridges, since this procedure does not impact healthy teeth. When several teeth have been lost, a combination dental bridge implant may be the best option.

Dental Bridge Implant Procedure at Destination Dentistry

A dental bridge implant procedure uses titanium devices to anchor a bridge or partial denture permanently in your gums. For more information about implant dentistry, visit our dental implant page.

There are several factors to consider in determining whether a dental bridge, a dental implant, or another procedure may help you complete your smile. Dr. Kinniburgh looks forward to meeting with you and performing a dental health assessment in order to achieve the best possible outcome.
